Sample files for web development

Placeholder images, media, data and documents for building and demonstrating web interfaces.

While building an interface you need content before the real content exists: an image for the gallery, a video for the player, a JSON response for the table, a PDF for the viewer.

These files are safe to drop into a prototype or a demo. They are free to use, contain nothing confidential, and are obviously test material, so nobody mistakes them for production data.

Checklist

  1. Mock the data first

Point your components at a sample JSON file while the API is still being written.

  2. Test media elements

Check that video seeks, audio reports its duration and captions appear, in every browser you support.

  3. Test responsive images

Use test-card images with known dimensions to verify srcset, lazy loading and aspect-ratio handling.

  4. Test empty and slow states

Throttle the network and load a large file to see your loading and error states.
